How Audiout updates

Official builds — the paid ones — check for updates in-app. You don’t download new versions from the site; the app fetches them itself.

Checking manually

Two places, same button:

  • Right-click the Audiout icon in the menu bar and choose “Check for Updates…”.
  • Or open Settings › General and click the same button there.

Either way, Audiout checks for a newer version and offers to install it if one exists. If you’re already current, it says so and gets out of the way.

An update check needs an internet connection. If your Mac is offline when you check, nothing bad happens — try again once you’re back online. There’s nothing to configure: no update channel to pick, no schedule to set, no separate downloader to keep around. The manual check exists for the impatient; the app handles the rest on its own.

What your purchase includes

Updates are free and included with your purchase. That covers version 1 and every update to it — no update fees, no upgrade tiers to think about.

Two things stop official updates:

  • A refunded key. If your purchase was refunded, the key is revoked and the app no longer gets updates. Settings › License says so plainly: “This key was refunded, so Audiout plays on one speaker at a time.” See the refund page for how refunds work.
  • A removed key. If you click “Remove license…”, Audiout keeps working for now but stops getting official updates until you enter a key again. The license key article covers entering and removing keys in detail.

In both cases, entering a valid key brings updates back.

Builds from source

Audiout’s source is open, and building it yourself is always free. Source builds have no updater — there’s nothing to check against and nothing to license. To update a source build, pull the latest code and rebuild.

If an official build refuses to update and Settings › License shows “Registered. Thank you for supporting Audiout.”, something else is wrong — write to support@audiout.app with your macOS version and what the update check said.

More help lives in the support articles.
